The Hudson Valley Radio Control Club recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward grant for $150. The club is located in West Haverstraw, NY. On Aug. 18, the club hosted their 9th Annual Air Show at the Hudson Riverview Park. The club has all day flying demos as well as flight simulators and the chance to fly an R/C plane with an instructor from the club. The Town of Haverstraw provided free refreshments and a free shuttle service for the public. The AMA Foundation would like to thank the Hudson Valley Radio Control Club for hosting this event every year for the public and sharing the hobby with others! The Wintonbury Flying Club recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $75. The club is located in Wethersfield, CT. The club had a Seabury Resident appreciation day at their flying field in Bloomfield on Aug. 5. The clubs flying field is located to the rear of the Seabury Retirement community and both groups share the use of the field for flying and enjoying the walking paths that surround the field. The Kootenai RC Flyers recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $75. The club is located in Libby, MT. The club hosted their annual fun fly on July 14. Last year, the club had to skip the event altogether due to the production of past Fun Fly events made it too much work for the small, casual club. The club currently has around 17 members but the amount of members fluctuates for the 8-year old club. The club is also open to people who fly drones. The club has their very own flying instructor, Norm Crum. He doesn't charge for anyone interested in getting into radio control flying. The club even has their own "trainer" planes with controls that allow the trainer to take over if an inexperienced pilot has problems. The Southern Air RC Club recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $50. The Southern Air RC Club located in Vanceboro, NC, hosted half a dozen Cub Scout's from New Bern’s Centenary Church on July 21 to teach them how to fly at their flying field. The club gave the kids ground school, flight instruction and some time on a flight simulator. The cub scouts were able to handle the flight controls and make the airplanes fly. Kids often learn aerodynamics and maintenance from these exercises. The cub scouts got a break from flying around noon which included hot dogs and chips. Also, the boys were given balsa gliders of their own to take home. The Southern Air RC Club works with any youth group for free. The North East Blue Sky Squadron recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $175. The club is located in Berryton, Kansas. The club hosted their annual spring airshow on June 16 at their flying field. The event was free for the public and there was a $10 landing fee for pilots. The airshow normally has 50 to 60 different planes at the event. The club decided to start this annual event as an open airshow where anybody could fly any size aircraft. The Finger Lakes Air Pirates recently received an AMA club recognition and reward grant for $50. The club is located in Seneca Falls, NY. The club has been  in existence for over 30 years. The main interest of the club is radio control sport flying, but they also include sailplanes, rockets, jets, helicopters and multi-rotors. The club recently had a swap meet at the Seneca Falls Community Center. The club was featured in the Finger Lakes Times on April 23 for informing the community about rc flying. The Fluvanna County RC Flying Club recently received an AMA club recognition and reward grant for $175. The club is located in Fork Union, VA. On June 9, the club hosted their third annual Wings and Wheels 4 Paws event.  All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to four animal rescue shelters in Fluvanna County including Caring for Creatures, Fluvanna SPCA, Green Dogs Unleashed and Peaceful Passing. The club charged $10 per carload, $20 pilot landing fee and $20 for car show registration. The fundraiser featured model aviation demonstrations, a car show with prizes and a large raffle. The event also had a flyover of a ⅞ scale S.E. 5a British World War I fighter aircraft and two shows by the Dare Devil Dogs. Hundreds of people from the community came to the event to support the cause. The event had a successful turn out and the club raised approximately $5,000 for the rescue animals.   The AMA Foundation would like to thank the Fluvanna County RC Flying Club for hosing this annual event and raising money for the shelters in Fluvanna County. The Piggot RC Modelers recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $50. The club is located in Piggot, AR. The club hosted their annual spring fly-in June 2-3 at their flying field. The event had aircraft and pilots from several states who participated. The fly-in draws some of the best pilots from the region, with a variety of fixed-wing and other aircraft. During the fly-in, there was a variety of competitions, free flyings and demonstrations. The event was free for the public and concessions were available both days. The local RC modelers have been sponsoring the spring fly-in for a number of years. The North Georgia Model Aviators recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $50. This club is located in Dawsonville, Georgia. The club recently found a new 40-acre flying field. The club broke ground in September 2017 and has been open to its members for three months. The field opened for its first public event March 22-24.The event was open to all RC aviators across the country in its first aerobatic fun fly event sponsored by RC plane manufacturer Extreme Flight RC located in cumming, GA. Currently, the field consists of a 550 foot runway and a newly constructed covered pavilion with stations for aviators to work on their planes. They also plan to add another 200 ft to the runway, run power to the pavilion and set up a weather station and camera system. The club has many sponsors who support the development of their flying field. The sponsors include Extreme Flight sponsored by Jase Dussia and John and James Geirrein. The club saw approximately 60 model planes take flight at their event. The event also included a raffle and barbecue with all proceeds going towards helping the nonprofit club. The clubs goal is to have the field open for other neighboring clubs to use since many clubs have closed in 2017. The York County Flyers recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $75. The club is located in York, SC. The club hosts their “Fallen Eagle Memorial Fly In” which is an annual fundraising event for Hospice. The club has been putting on the event since 2007. Since then, the event has raised about $12,000 for Rock Hill-based Hospice and Community Care. The club has simulators, drone ride-alongs and homemade planes for kids to get the community involved in the hobby. Raising money for Hospice is important to the York County Flyers because they have seen their club members rely on Hospice. Their fly-in honors members they have lost throughout the years. One of the clubs goals is to get more teens involved in RC flying. The AMA would like to thank the York County Flyers for raising money for Hospice and giving back to the community.
