As hobbyists, it's important to remember that while we enjoy the thrill of flight, we receive support in a variety of ways both near and far. Serving as timers, supportive spectators, snack suppliers, battery chargers, and more, our spouses, friends, and family become something crucial to our journey in model aviation: our most treasured copilots.

Their support, in whatever shape or form it may come in, allows pilots to focus on perfecting their skills in the air. To better thank, recognize, and appreciate all of these copilots, the AMA Foundation has created a brand-new Copilot Recognition Program!

Each year, a well-deserving nominee from each AMA district will be awarded a District Copilot of the Year award! Out of these district awardees, an overall Copilot of the Year award will be given to a select individual.

To ensure that your supportive copilot is considered, fill out the below nomination form!

All nominees will receive an exclusive Copilot Recognition Program certificate and letter, which the nominator can customize with a special note, in addition to being featured as a program nominee throughout AMA Foundation communications.

Nominate your copilot by filling out this nomination form!

To determine district awardees, all submitted nominations are reviewed by a judging panel made up of AMA Leader Members and/or AMA staff. The judging panel looks for nominees who play a significant role in their hobbyist's model aviation journey, in addition to the duration of support that the nominee has provided. The judging panel heavily relies on the nominator's completion of Section Three of the nomination form to make these decisions. An awardee from each AMA district is selected, creating 11 awardees total.

Using the above criteria, these 11 awardees are then reevaluated by a judging panel made up of AMA/AMA Foundation staff before an overall Copilot of the Year is selected.

District Copilot of the Year Awards will be presented to select awardees in December of each year.

Awardees will be made aware via email and/or phone, in addition to being featured throughout AMA Foundation communications.
