N.E. Kansas Blue Sky Squadron Receives AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant

The North East Blue Sky Squadron recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $175. The club is located in Berryton, Kansas. The club hosted their annual spring airshow on June 16 at their flying field. The event was free for the public and there was a $10 landing fee for pilots. The airshow normally has 50 to 60 different planes at the event.

New Signs on Site at The IAC

Every year several national and international events are held at the Academy’s International Aeromodeling Center (IAC). With the help of our generous supporters, various new signs have been placed on site from the National Site Development fund. These signs will help easily direct visitors to flying sites. Each flying site is now labeled by number.

Aviation Adventure Day 2018

Come celebrate National Model Aviation Day at the International Aeromodeling Center. The AMA Foundation will be hosting Aviation Adventure Day on Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free for a full day of aviation fun. Kids 8-17 can sign up for youth airplane rides provided by EAA Young Eagles.

The Finger Lakes Air Pirates recently received an AMA club recognition and reward grant for $50. The club is located in Seneca Falls, NY. The club has been  in existence for over 30 years. The main interest of the club is radio control sport flying, but they also include sailplanes, rockets, jets, helicopters and multi-rotors. The club recently had a swap meet at the Seneca Falls Community Center. The club was featured in the Finger Lakes Times on April 23 for informing the community about rc flying.

RC Resale to host open house at IAC

RC Resale has had a busy year selling planes donated to the AMA Foundation to raise funds for our educational programs, but we still have planes left to sell! On June 22, join us for an Open House at the International Aeromodeling Center. We will open up our storage pods so you can get an up-close look at the planes available. The storage pods are located behind the Maintenance area, near site 3. The yellow star on the map below shows where we will be. Stop out and see us on Friday, June 22 from 12pm-2pm.

Fluvanna County RC Flying Club Receives AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant

The Fluvanna County RC Flying Club recently received an AMA club recognition and reward grant for $175.

 

The Fluvanna County RC Flying Club recently received an AMA club recognition and reward grant for $175. The club is located in Fork Union, VA. On June 9, the club hosted their third annual Wings and Wheels 4 Paws event.  All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to four animal rescue shelters in Fluvanna County including Caring for Creatures, Fluvanna SPCA, Green Dogs Unleashed and Peaceful Passing. The club charged $10 per carload, $20 pilot landing fee and $20 for car show registration. The fundraiser featured model aviation demonstrations, a car show with prizes and a large raffle. The event also had a flyover of a ⅞ scale S.E. 5a British World War I fighter aircraft and two shows by the Dare Devil Dogs. Hundreds of people from the community came to the event to support the cause. The event had a successful turn out and the club raised approximately $5,000 for the rescue animals.   The AMA Foundation would like to thank the Fluvanna County RC Flying Club for hosing this annual event and raising money for the shelters in Fluvanna County. Piggot RC Modelers Receive AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant

The Piggot RC Modelers recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $50. The club is located in Piggot, AR. The club hosted their annual spring fly-in June 2-3 at their flying field. The event had aircraft and pilots from several states who participated.

The club hosted their annual spring fly-in June 2-3 at their flying field. The event had aircraft and pilots from several states who participated. The fly-in draws some of the best pilots from the region, with a variety of fixed-wing and other aircraft. During the fly-in, there was a variety of competitions, free flyings and demonstrations. The event was free for the public and concessions were available both days. The local RC modelers have been sponsoring the spring fly-in for a number of years. The AMA Club Recognition and Reward Program was established to encourage clubs to promote model aviation. Casa Grande RC Flyers Present to Elementary School

The Casa Grande RC Flyers visited Palo Verde Elementary School to give lessons about the principles of aviation. Alan Friedman, club president; Nancy Friedman, club treasurer; and Ronald St. Pierre, club vice president, presented the program, “Drone - Summer of STEM” that was geared towards students. They answered the students questions about flight and model aircraft safety. The presenters asked the class how many students owned drones and found out that many students raised their hands. The club also covered the rules for the safe use of drones.

 

The Casa Grande RC Flyers visited Palo Verde Elementary School to give lessons about the principles of aviation. Alan Friedman, club president; Nancy Friedman, club treasurer; and Ronald St. Pierre, club vice president, presented the program, “Drone - Summer of STEM” that was geared towards students. They answered the students questions about flight and model aircraft safety. The presenters asked the class how many students owned drones and found out that many students raised their hands. The club also covered the rules for the safe use of drones. The presenters covered a range of topics including all drone safety flight rules as well as lithium ion battery safety procedures to prevent the batteries from exploding. The vice president, Ronald St. Pierre, also flew a drone and a 3-D fixed wing aircraft for the students. The AMA would like to thank the Casa Grande RC Flyers for teaching students about model aviation.

McAlister's Deli in Muncie, IN will host a fundraiser for the National Model Aviation Museum on June 13th between 3pm and 9:30pm. Stop in and grab a bite to eat and a portion of the proceeds will support the National Model Aviation Museum's Museum in a Box outreach program! McAlister's Deli is located at 600 E. McGalliard Road. The number of women joining the Casa Grande RC Flyers is increasing. When the club was created several years ago, it consisted mainly of men. In 2017, one women joined and in the recent months, an additional six women joined. Nancy Friedman took up flying RC aircraft from her husband, Alan. Alan is the club president and associate vice president of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Alan encouraged her to give RC flying a try using a flight simulator in their home. From there, she decided to take lessons to better understand the hobby.

From there, she decided to take lessons to better understand the hobby. After a few lessons, she had mastered the controls and moved on to a model plane that requires more skill and experience. The Casa Grande RC Flyers is an AMA sanctioned club and an Arizona nonprofit organization. The club was awarded the AMA’s highest honor by being named a “Gold Level Leader Club” for its community service and field facilities. The AMA would like to congratulate the Casa Grande RC Flyers for getting women into the hobby.
