On Saturday, September 20, 2025, AMA Foundation Executive Director Steve Haston attended Camp Kikthawenund's Boy Scouting Event in Frankton, Indiana. Steve brought the AMA Model Aviation Experience Sponsored by Wing to the event, allowing upwards of 300 Boy Scouts to experience the thrill of virtual flight.
Steve had the following to say about his time at this great Scouting event:
"I brought the AMA Model Aviation Experience Sponsored by Wing to Camp Kikthawenund for a special Scouting event, and the results were awesome. During the 3.5 hours of open flying, an estimated 250 Scouts had the chance to step into the pilot's seat—some for the very first time—experiencing the thrill of flight in a safe, engaging, and educational way. The simulation trailer offered hands-on exposure to aviation, sparking excitement and curiosity that will no doubt fuel future exploration in model aviation and beyond.

"For many Scouts, this interactive experience was their introduction to the hobby of model aviation. The simulator provided a natural gateway to learning about model aircraft and the larger world of flying. By partnering with AMA, Scouts gained a connection to clubs, mentors, and local flying opportunities, ensuring that the spark from this event can grow into a lifelong passion. It was more than just an activity—it was the beginning of a journey into a welcoming community of aviators.

"This expanding collaboration between AMA and Scouting America clearly showed its strength at this event. Both organizations share core values—teamwork, innovation, discipline, and service—and the day demonstrated how well those values align. Scouts not only gained new skills but also saw how aviation connects to leadership, community, and adventure. Each shared program builds momentum, creating a tradition that continues to grow stronger each year.

"In the end, this event was about more than just flying. It was about building confidence, inspiring curiosity, and fostering connections. Every Scout who stepped into the AMA Model Aviation Experience Sponsored by Wing became part of a larger story—one where aviation serves as a bridge between imagination and achievement. The success of this day proved that when AMA and Scouting America work together, youth are given the tools to soar in both aviation and life."
