On June 28, the AMA Foundation welcomed 44 Scouts, along with their parents and siblings, from the White River Scouting District to the International Aeromodeling Center (IAC) for an exciting day of aviation discovery. This event was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do: inspire the next generation through the wonder of flight.
During the event, the AMA team rolled out the AMA Model Aviation Experience Sponsored by Wing simulation trailer, and it was a non-stop hit! Scouts lined up to test their piloting skills in a safe, immersive environment that gave them a true taste of model aviation. The trailer stayed busy all day, filled with laughter, cheers, and curious questions—proof that hands-on learning really takes flight when it is fun and engaging!

Deputy Director Rachelle Haughn noted that "many of the Scouts had never tried a flight simulator. At times, the groups of Scouts got excited and cheered each other on for making great landings, performing maneuvers, or figuring out how to rewind their flights and view them again. As they flew at the IAC on the simulator, they were fascinated to turn around and see actual model aircraft flying behind them at Site 3. Many switched to Site 3 on the simulator so they could pretend to fly with the real-life aircraft. Watching these kids experience the joy of flight for the first time was a heart-warming experience and a good reminder of why we do what we do."

To top it off, an AMA Education team member flew an AeroScout during the event, wowing the crowd with a live flight demonstration. The aircraft's name couldn't have been more fitting for the day!
In full, the Scouts' visit was extremely successful. In addition to learning about the joy of flight, the Scouts learned skills such as archery, shooting, and slingshot, all of which were taught to them by their pack leaders. We at the AMA Foundation are looking forward to hosting more Scouting events in the future!

The AMA Foundation extends thanks to the Scouts for their energy, to the parents and pack leaders who made this event happen, and to the entire AMA crew for making this a day to remember.
