To start his 2026 travels, AMA Foundation Executive Director Steve Haston journeyed to the West Coast. His first stop was attending the 2026 Arizona Scale Aviation Airshow in Phoenix, Arizona. Held at the Sun Valley Fliers flying field and presented by Bonnie and Brian O'Meara, this event's proceeds went directly to The Morgan Adams Foundation, advancing the care, research, and diagnosis of children's cancer.
Steve had the following to say about his time at the event:
"At 105 degrees, most people would have looked for shade and called it a day. But at the Arizona Scale Aviation Airshow, the heat became just another part of the story, because nothing was going to stop AMA pilots from taking to the skies. Presented by Bonnie and Brian O'Meara, this remarkable event was more than a gathering of talented model aviators; it was a celebration of skill, generosity, and purpose. Every year, the Arizona Scale Aviation Airshow brings people together not only for the love of model aviation but to support the fight against cancer. That mission gave even greater meaning to an already unforgettable weekend. And what a weekend it was!

"From the moment the first aircraft lifted off, it was clear that this was something special. The flying was extraordinary. Large-scale jets thundered across the Arizona sky. Beautiful warbirds roared past with power and grace. Replicas of some of history's most famous aircraft reminded everyone why Scale aviation holds such a special place in our hobby. Every flight reflected precision, discipline, and countless hours of dedication.
"Just as impressive as the aircraft was the talent behind the sticks. Pilots delivered breathtaking aerobatics and smooth, controlled flying that kept spectators locked in from takeoff to landing. In weather that set records for this time of year, they performed at an exceptional level, once again showing the resilience, passion, and determination that define the AMA community.

"The O'Mearas made the event even more meaningful through their generosity. They provided prizes and created moments that will have a lasting impact, especially for the next generation. One highlight was the recognition of three young pilots known as the 'Young Guns,' each of whom was awarded new high-end transmitters. It was exciting to see youth encouraged in such a powerful way. Investments like these help ensure that the future of model aviation remains strong, vibrant, and full of promise.
"During the closing dinner, AMA President Greg Stone, AMA Foundation Co-Chair Dan Bott, and I had the privilege of speaking to the pilots and attendees. We shared our vision for the future of AMA and the AMA Foundation, highlighted the important work being done, and spoke about the opportunities ahead. Most importantly, we asked for their continued support, because the future of our hobby depends on all of us.

"Events like the Arizona Scale Aviation Airshow remind us of what makes this community so extraordinary: generosity, excellence, mentorship, and heart. Thank you to Bonnie and Brian O'Meara and every pilot, volunteer, attendee, member, and donor who made this event possible.
"Now is the time to keep that spirit moving forward. Support model aviation in your local community. Encourage the next generation to get involved. Stand behind the AMA Foundation as we work to protect, grow, and inspire this great hobby. Thank you for believing in the future we are building together."
