The skills I developed while learning to build and fly model aircraft provided a strong foundation for my career trajectory. Some of these skills involved mechanical and creative components developed through ideation, building, testing, tinkering, repairing, etc. But the truly impactful developments have been the professional skills: things like collaboration, determination, leadership, confidence, and humor. I'll forever be grateful to the individuals who invested their time through mentorship within the hobby and so much more. That's why I support the AMA Foundation: to provide funding that helps ensure those same stories play out across the US, ensuring the hobby, the sport, and the career pathways are continually developed.
