The Central Connecticut RC Club recently received an AMA club recognition and reward grant for $75. The club is located in Farmington, CT. The members of the club attended a drive and fly-in at a local airport. The event the club attended was the 32nd annual Simsbury Fly-In and Car Show. This event attracts around 15,000 spectators, and it has about 150 businesses as sponsors, advertisers, and exhibitors.The annual show was hosted by the Simsbury Flying Club, and proceeds from the event helped keep the Simsbury Airport in operation. The fly in and car show featured hundreds of airplanes and cars that could be seen up close. The airplanes ranged from antiques dating back to the 1920's, to homebuilts, helicopters, small former military aircraft, and brand new models on display by dealers. The North East Kansas Blue Sky Squadron, Inc. recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward grant of $175. The club is located in Berryton, Kansas. The club had their annual Big Bird Fly in on September 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event was held at the Blue Sky Aerodome. The community was invited to come watch the fly-in and the event was free to the public. There was a $10 landing fee for pilots with an AMA membership. The club also served breakfast in the early morning and lunch was $5 for burgers and hot dogs. The club had all kinds of planes in the air from smaller models to larger models. The Holly Springs Skyhawks Radio Control Group recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $75. The club is located in Holly Springs, NC. The club hosted their Wings Over Springs fly-in and SWAP Meet event on September 2. This was the clubs first organized event. The event was open to the public as Wings Over Springs Model Aviation Day. It was a free event designed to educate and entertain the public about RC flying. There was a Drone Racing Course, operated by local MultiGP club members, next to the main event. Several hundred spectators came to the air show. Many different planes were at the event including  a Magnum PI Hughes 500D replica, an aerobatic quad copter flown line-of- site, 3D pattern, and many more.  The club raised $400 in support of Meg’s Smile Foundation. The Northeastern Drone Society has received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $175. The club is located in Coventry, CT. The club was featured on Charter Community Access Tv. The segment has Richard Pierce, President and Donald MacDougall, Club Safety Officer featured. In this segment, they inform the watchers about Drones and the safety and regulations that go along with them. The club is a member of the AMA which helps regulate the rules and guidelines to go along with flying. The Fox Valley Aero Club received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $150. The club is located in St. Charles, IL. The club hosted their Windy City Warbirds and Classics Radio-Controlled Air Show from June 22 to 24. This marked the 90th anniversary of the Spirit of St. Louis transatlantic flight. The cost was $5 and free for kids 11 and younger and veterans with an ID. John Fischer, Chairman of the event, said about 100 visiting pilots from seven states were expected to join the club to provide a total of 300 “giant scale” aircraft. ABC7 news covered this event and did a Facebook Live feed on Friday which doubled the spectators on Saturday. The Facebook feed had about 15,000 viewers. The television coverage ran four times before the event on Saturday. The Rogue Eagles RC Club recently received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $125. The club is located in Medford, OR. The club hosted their 39th Annual Air Show at the Agate Skyways air field. The Air Show ran from noon to 2 p.m. August 29-30. Admission was $5 per person or $10 per carload, with kids allowed in free. The proceeds from the event benefited Children’s Miracle Network health care services provided to local kids through Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. The club members flew everything from real drones to models of fighter jets to gliders and biplanes. There was also an Avanti electric-powered jet that reached 110 miles per hour. The event was family friendly and a bomber replica ended the show each day by dumping pounds of candy on the runway for kids to grab. Wally’s Squadron R/C Flyers club received an AMA Club Recognition and Reward Grant for $175. The event was located in Summersville, WV. The club hosted their 26th Annual Fly-In Fundraiser event from  August 16-19. The event was filled with many different activities for the spectators. Throughout the weekend, the events included: balloon bust, paintball plane shoot, Warbird fly in, tail dunk, limbo, radial engine fly, ugly plane contest, fireworks, late night demo and a lighted balloon bust. The event also had on-site camping. The club raffled off prizes including infant to 14 year old bikes and an outdoor family fun package. The Casa Grande RC Flyers has recently been awarded a $175 Club Recognition and Reward Grant. Casa Grande RC Flyers club has been featured in The Robson Ranch Views monthly from Jan. to March and the April issue of the AMA Magazine. Casa Grande RC Flyers is an Arizona nonprofit corporation that raises money for local charities. Membership is open to anyone wanting fly or learn to fly radio-controlled aircraft. They also offer free lessons taught by any of nine AMA certified instructors. The club has about 156 members that include local residents and winter residents. Club members have visted area schools, 4-H groups, science nights and festivals to teach youth about aviation. The Beresford Area Radio Flyers has recently been awarded with a $50 Club Recognition and Reward Grant. Beresford Area Radio flyers were featured in the Sioux Center News for hosting a 25th annual model airplane show at Centre Mall in Sioux. Hobbyist came from Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa to see about 40 planes on display. Coordinator of the event Don Van Voorst told reporter Steve Hoogland, “If you’re going to be a club and you want to fly, you’re pretty much bound to the AMA.” The AMA Foundation thanks the Beresford Area Radio Flyers and attendees for making the event such a large success. Earlier this year, members of Rend Lake RC Club applied for the Take Off and Grow (TAG) Grant. The AMA is excited to announce Rend Lake RC Club has received a $500 award by District 6 Vice President, Randy Cameron. This grant was awarded to Rend Lake to help with Open Houses and their RC Kid’s Camp this summer.   Rend Lake RC Club encourages anyone interested to attend their open house May 20 and August 1 from 12 - 4 p.m. Aircraft will be present and members will be there for any questions attendees may have.
