After attending the Charitable Gift Planners National Conference in October 2024, AMA Foundation Executive Director Steve Haston embarked on a road trip to visit various AMA clubs. To share this journey with you, we have created a 10-week video series, with each week featuring a detailed account of Steve's visits to these clubs. You can look forward to stories about the vibrant communities, the innovative projects, and the inspiring individuals that he met along the way.
Starting on January 29, this series will be published once a week on the AMA Foundation's website, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, so be sure to stay tuned!
AMA Foundation Executive Director Steve Haston stated the following about his adventures:
"I am excited to share the details of a remarkable journey that I recently undertook that I believe will greatly benefit our community and the AMA Foundation. Following the Charitable Gift Planners National Conference in Orlando, Florida, Deputy Director Rachelle Haughn and I went our separate ways for the journey to return to the International Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana.
I decided to transform this trip into an AMA Foundation road trip, visiting several AMA flying fields and club members along the way to the conference and on the way back. As a hobbyist and modeler, as well as the AMA Foundation's executive director, I wanted to meet with club members, understand their needs, discuss club growth, and explore how we can better support our clubs and flying sites. The AMA Foundation already has many support programs, including AMA's new Club Toolkit, but there's always more room for growth.
My journey began with two club visits prior to reaching the Orlando conference. My first stop was at the Falling Water RC Club at George Levi Memorial Field, and this was followed by stopping at the Chattanooga RC Club at Summit Airfield. These initial visits were incredibly insightful, and I was inspired by the passion and dedication of the club members.
After the conference, I continued my journey, stopping at the following clubs in this order:
- Saint Augustine RC Flyers at St. Johns Solid Waste
- Ancient City RC Flyers, Inc. at Parker Field
- RC Club of Jacksonville at Island Drive
- Tri-County RC Flyers at SSG Anthony Davis Memorial Model Airfield
- Central Carolina R/C Modelers at Davis County Road
- Volunteer Aeromodelers at Milford Robbins Memorial Field
- House Mountain Radio Control at Thompson Airpark
- Southern Kentucky Model Aero Club at Carson Stahl Memorial
Each visit was a unique experience, filled with engaging conversations and valuable insights. I had the opportunity to witness firsthand the incredible work being done by our members and the challenges they face. These interactions have reinforced my commitment to supporting our clubs and ensuring their continued growth and success.
I am truly excited to embark on this storytelling journey with you and to highlight the incredible work being done by our members. Your support and dedication are what make the AMA Foundation strong, and I am confident that together we can achieve great things."
Are you a member of any of the clubs that Steve visited last year? Submit a biography and tell us about yourself, your club, and how you got involved! We always love to learn more about our members. Not a member of any of those clubs? That's okay! Submit a biography anyways—we want to learn more about you, too!
Keep an eye out for future announcements about where the AMA Foundation will be traveling throughout 2025. We want to meet with as many clubs and members as possible this year, and we'd love to stop by and say hello if we're in your area!
