James "Bud" Layne is the new AMA Foundation Board of Directors chairman.
The AMA Foundation Board of Directors has tapped one of its members to be the new board chairman. James "Bud" Layne will now serve in that role. Before November 21, 2024, Francis "Rusty" Kennedy served as board chairman for a handful of years. Rusty stepped down as board chairman but will remain on the board.

Dear AMA community,
We are writing to inform you of an important leadership transition within the Academy of Model Aeronautics Foundation. After many years of dedicated service and countless cherished memories, Francis "Rusty" Kennedy has decided to step down from his role as chair of the board. Rusty's commitment and contributions to our organization have been invaluable, and we are deeply grateful for his unwavering dedication and leadership.

We are pleased to announce that Rusty will remain on the board, supporting our mission and contributing to our ongoing projects. His passion for the AMA Foundation and its goals remain as strong as ever, and we are fortunate to have his continued involvement.

Bud is active in the Indoor Free Flight (FF) community and still competes. He is the CEO of SpanTech LLC in Kentucky. In addition to flying model aircraft, he licensed to fly full-scale airplanes and helicopters.
