As the International Aeromodeling Center (IAC) Improvement Project is underway, project legs continue to be completed. This project has been made possible through the support of the Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC), an organization that gifted the AMA Foundation a grant of $140,000 in 2025. To ensure that this project is as beneficial as possible to AMA's hobbyists and community members, the AMA Foundation has matched this funding in excess through donor-specified funds.
The receival of this grant funding wouldn't have been possible without the support of AMA members and donors, in addition to various community supporters. The dedication and support that our member- and donorship has offered us from the very beginning laid an impressive foundation that directly impacted the result of this funding.
AMA and AMA Foundation staff are hard at work finding contractors, raising community awareness, and ensuring that each project leg stays on track. We're thrilled to share that a handful of project legs have already been completed.
While this leg of the IAC Improvement Project was not funded by IDDC's grant, and was instead funded through a combination of other grants and ongoing donations, the AMA Foundation is excited to share that a brand-new awning has been installed over the National Model Aviation Museum's main entrance.
The awning's installation was completed on June 16, 2026, and it looks wonderful. Themed to mimic the wing of a model aircraft, the awning adds an exciting touch to the experience of National Model Aviation Museum visitors. To add to the thematic nature of the awning, the museum's concrete has been painted to mimic a runway.
The IAC Improvement Project is something that AMA and AMA Foundation staff are extremely passionate about, and we're extremely appreciative of IDDC for recognizing AMA's impact on its community and having the confidence to assist us in seeing this project to fruition.
