A West Virginia club has reopened its flying site thanks to a financial boost from the AMA Foundation. The Flying Wing Nutz club of St. Marys has been awarded a Disaster Relief Grant. The club was affected by not one, but two, floods in April 2024.
The following is a thank-you note sent by the club's secretary, Mark Radcliff:
"On behalf of the Flying Wing Nutz, I would like to thank the AMA for approving the $1,000 disaster grant to help the club get back on its feet. I have attached pictures showing some of the damage from the floods and the resulting cleanup by the dedicated members of the club.
"The electric boxes had to be replaced, airplane benches repaired, mowers rebuilt, and more. All [of] the repairs were made by club members with donated time and labor.
"While the damage was in excess of the amount received from the grant, we are very grateful that the grant covered a substantial portion of the necessary repairs."
