One of the 55 AMA Introductory Pilot Program clubs that received a Club Training Day Starter Kit is AMA District XI's Clark County Radio Control Society. Club Grant Coordinator Darrell Walker provided the following write-up about how his club utilized its kit at a recent Open House/Community Day event:
"The Clark County Radio Control Society held its annual Open House/Community Day on September 14 at the club's field. The day started rainy, turned a bit windy, then ended up with some welcome sunshine later in the morning.
"The club had simulator stations set up which received heavy traffic, and provided a dozen buddy box sessions, both to younger model aviation enthusiasts and their parents.

"Free hot dogs, chips, and drinks were provided by the club and were happily consumed by the attendees (and club volunteers).

"Despite less-than-ideal flying weather, several club members performed demonstration flights. Fortunately, the buddy box flights got the nicer weather later in the morning.

"The highlight of the day was a raffle of complete RC systems donated by club members, as well as the centerpiece, the AeroScout provided to the club via the AMA Foundation's Club Training Day Starter Kit program. Every attendee under 18 went home with a complete RC setup, and a few adults received the remaining donated models.

"Each of the families in attendance received additional information about AMA, the club, and their next steps into becoming RC pilots."
Thank you, Darrell, for providing this write-up! The AMA Foundation is happy to see such intrigued, excited youth present at this community event. It is events like the Clark County Radio Control Society's Open House/Community Day that will ensure our hobby is prominent in generations to come. Thank you, Darrell, for all that you and your club do for model aviation!
The AMA Foundation is eager to hear how other AMA Introductory Pilot Program clubs have utilized their Club Training Day Starter Kits. If your club received a kit, let Chief Communications Officer Clarissa Poston know how it was utilized by emailing clarissap@modelaircraft.org.
