In honor of National Model Aviation Day, AMA District VI's Blacksheep R/C Modelers hosted a community flying event on Saturday, August 9, 2025. This event was held at the club's field in Danville, Indiana, and raised proceeds to support the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation. Club President Rege Hall provided the following write-up about his club's extremely successful National Model Aviation Day event:
"We hosted our annual National Model Aviation Day event to support the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at our Blacksheep R/C Modelers field in Danville, Indiana. Despite the hot and humid weather, we had 44 pilots and members displaying and flying over 100 various R/C aircraft.
"The day opened with Indy Bipes' three-biplane formation performing a flyover as our Blacksheep veterans raised the flag to our National Anthem. There were many spectators attending this event and all seemed to enjoy the display and flying.
"We had sport planes, all kinds and sizes of warbirds, helicopters and EDF and turbine jets on display and flying. We provided trainer flights with our new AeroScout trainers that we were able to obtain via an AMA Foundation Take off And Grow grant. The candy drops and parachute drops were very popular with the younger kids in the crowd.
"We raised funds by selling over 100 hotdog lunches and lots of drinks and snacks. We featured a hotdog/chili dog bar this year with all the fixings. We also sold raffle tickets for many R/C airplanes, courtesy of our club and many donated by club members.
"More photos and details are available on our Facebook page and website. The following Saturday, August 16, we displayed the Hendricks County Airport lunch at the airport open house. Another hot and humid day and an opportunity to share our love of the hobby with the community."
