Robert 'Bob' Nelson was nominated by his friend, Robert A. Camarata. Robert shared the following sentiment about Bob and his support:
"Bob owned the local hobby shop and that is how we met. He taught me how to build models and fly them. It was him who convinced me to join the AMA. We traveled to R/C Pattern, Scale, Pylon, and R/C Combat events around the U.S. and a number of AMA Nationals. Bob was the Contest Director for a number of our club's events and talked me into becoming an AMA Contest Director. When Bob retired and closed his hobby shop he went to work for SIG Manufacturing as a kit designer. He also was the Contest Director for SIG R/C and Control Line events every year until his death. Bob was a modeler for over 20 years before I met him in 1968-69 and over the years mentored many modelers and AMA members in our area. I miss him and flying R/C is not the same now that he has left us."
