Richard 'Rick' Caldwell was anonymously nominated. His nominator shared the following sentiment about Rick and his support:
"Have known Rick for over 30 years. Started me in the hobby by helping me built my first airplane. Then patiently taught me to fly. Rick has introduced and taught many to the hobby, most recently my Grandson.
If I had a copilot in the seat next to me, Rick would be the guy. He knows RC flying. Great patience, knowledgeable and a real mechanic. On the flight line he cheerfully loans tools, gives instructions and advice to everyone in need. He has given away his own planes to those who couldn’t afford to purchase one but wanted to learn to fly. The flying field is his second home, there virtually every day. No one can repair a crashed airplane like Rick, I know, he’s restored stuff I never thought would fly again. Rick is a safe, fly by the rules and regulations member of his club for many years and very deserving of an award like CoPilot of the Year. A great friend and pilot."
