AMA Foundation Board Co-Chairman
Dan Bott is one of the AMA Foundation's original board members, having served consecutively for more than 12 years. Professionally, Dan brings ample experience to the AMA Foundation, with more than 50 years of experience in the world of finance and investments. Specifically working with foundations and endowments throughout his career, Dan's expertise is crucial to the AMA Foundation's financial literacy.
Through his time in the workforce, Dan established a clear understanding of financial risks and the dynamics of foundation boards. To him, the most prudent thing that the AMA Foundation Board can do is work to protect the donors' monies; it's not a suggestion, it's a fiduciary responsibility. Not only does he consistently keep donors' intentions and best interests in mind, but he's determined to protect and grow the AMA Foundation in full.
Back before the AMA Foundation was established in 2013, Dan recognized that AMA was missing out on the opportunity to accept bequest donations from passionate members who were eager to directly contribute to AMA's mission (without a sole and dedicated effort). Initially one of the early AMA Foundation Board members, Dan later became chairman. One of his first acts was discussing the issue of a planned giving effort and creation of an endowment with AMA's Executive Council, ultimately leading to where the AMA Foundation is today.
Throughout his time on the AMA Foundation Board, Dan has spearheaded the development of a spending and donor policy, one that directly aligns with good governance and the AMA Foundation's mission to be a successful philanthropic arm of AMA. He's been passionate about the growth of the AMA Foundation's endowment, ensuring that large sums donated are present and built upon for the foreseeable future.
Dan's presence on the AMA Foundation Board is directly correlated to his desire to help and grow the hobby of model aviation. He saw an opportunity to get involved, took it, and has been all-in ever since.
