Velola Keys Biography

I guess I’ll start off by saying I truly love this hobby and always encourage people young and old to get involved in RC flying. I spent summers at my aunt's home when I was a kid, and there was a flying field one block from her house. I was absolutely amazed seeing these RC planes climbing at full speed above the homes across the street, I couldn’t wait to be able to buy one.

I researched these RC planes on how to get started, and every magazine and every article said a beginner should get an AMA membership and find an experienced RC pilot to show you the basics and how to fly because they are very friendly and no doubt will be happy to help. Well, that wasn’t my experience. I was excited, so I bought a beginner plane, got my AMA membership, and asked people out at the field if they could teach me. I would do it at any time they could! Well, I got turned down so many times at one field and I didn’t want to wreck a brand new plane trying myself. So, after I became an adult, the urge for the hobby never left. I moved way across town, got married, had kids, and one day driving from work, I saw a flying field. Wow, I got excited like that first time. I decided to buy a new plane even though I still had the old one, but it had a ton of dust on it. These guys can’t be like at that other park, and to my surprise, they did the exact same thing! I’m a motorcyclist, that’s another hobby of mine, and most bikers wave at each other, but unfortunately for some odd reason, sport bikes and cruisers choose not to wave at each other, just kinda reminds me of that. Thanks for the opportunity to tell my story, and I'm sorry it wasn’t a good one, but that’s my story.
