Robert (Bob) Smith Biography

-A A +A

I became aviation-minded as a child of 4-5. I would lie out under a tree in the front yard and watch the DeHavilland Otters and Beavers fly over from the National Guard at the airport 5 miles N of the house.  I knew then that someday I wanted to fly.

I started at age 6 with hand-launched gliders, then powered FF, then CL. In 1972, I purchased my first radio, a 3-channel Hobby Lobby and a Debolt trainer with a 20-size motor, and have been an active R/C flyer ever since. I fly a lot of different types of aircraft. My interest is EDF and scale warbirds primarily. I am an instructor and CD in the local club, Denver R/C Eagles. In 1972, I got my private pilot's license, and in 1979-2013, I built a Homebuilt full-size Mini Max (a huge model airplane).

I love building and flying all types of models; the balsa bug resides in my blood! At 74, I am hooked for life.
