Matthew Fornefeld Biography

I am 67 years old and have been modeling since I was very young. My father was a full-scale pilot and helped grow my interest in aviation. I built many Free Flight Guillow's models until I had saved enough to afford a Bridi RCM trainer. I was a member of the Hamilton County RC modelers in the early 70s. We had a junior division and had a building class at Harold Vandevier’s shop (he was a noted scale modeler). I learned the basics of building R/C then. I won the best junior award at the 1974 mall show.

I put modeling aside when I started engineering school at Purdue. After finishing a Chemical Engineering degree, I headed for medical school at Indiana University.  After internship and a residency in Ophthalmology, I settled in Bloomington, Indiana, in the early 90s and was able to resume R/C modeling and flying with the Monroe County R/C Modelers. I have been active in scale modeling and pylon racing. I always enjoyed the Toledo exposition and placed in military scale in 2004. I have enjoyed competing in the pylon nationals in Muncie the past few years. I have since retired and moved to Georgetown, Texas, and am looking forward to many more years of modeling.
