In the early 90s, during a very stressful time in my life, my brother suggested picking back up my childhood hobby of building and flying model airplanes. I joined the AMA, bought an R/C Trainer, Radio, and all the gear I need to get started flying Radio Controlled Airplanes.
In the years since, I have been a local club President, a Regional Director, then President of IMAC (Scale Aerobatics), and an AMA Contest Director. I've had the honor of being a judge at many prestigious Scale Aerobatics contests, including the Tournament of Champions, Tucson Shootout, and the Don Lowe Masters.
My membership in the AMA has given me the opportunity to meet hundreds of like-minded modelers from across the world. My wife and I have made life-long friends because of this hobby, including many of the staff at the International Aeromodeling Center (IAC) in Muncie, Indiana. The IAC is a place that we've visited many times to compete in the IMAC National Championships or to just meet friends there, fly, and enjoy the hobby with others.
I credit my membership in the AMA, and the friendships I've made because of the hobby, with decades of fun, fellowship, and above all, sharing the love of Aeromodeling with other AMA members.
