My name is **Lenny Muroff**, and I live in Port St. Lucie, Florida. After spending more than five decades in the Ophthalmology field, I am now happily retired.
Around 2017, I had a patient who worked in law enforcement and was affiliated with a local RC club—the Port St. Lucie RC Hobby Group. As a photographer, I had developed a strong interest in flying drones, so I decided to visit the club.
The first person I met was **Patrick Lyons**, one of the earliest contributors to our drone group and, in my humble opinion, an expert pilot.
From that very first day, Patrick's message was simple: **"Just come out and have fun."** That has been my takeaway for the past eight years, and it's the same advice I now share with every new member.
I began flying DJI drones, but after meeting our club president, **Jack Ferland**, I eventually made the transition to RC airplanes. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Today, I'm proud to call myself both a drone and airplane pilot. I'm far from the best pilot out there, but every time I fly, I ask myself, *"What can I do today to become a better pilot?"* That's part of what makes this hobby so rewarding.
I'm also honored to serve as the club's Secretary. My responsibilities include processing new member applications, taking meeting minutes, transcribing them, and posting them for our membership.
When I joined the club in 2017, I was member number 46. Today, we have grown to more than 400 members. Our club occupies over 40 acres, including approximately 30 acres of grass that our volunteers mow every week. We have an incredible team of dedicated members who not only maintain the field but also come together after severe weather to clean up debris and get everything back in shape.
One of the things I enjoy most is simply coming to the field to spend time with friends. Sometimes it's just as enjoyable to sit under the shelter, talk with fellow members, and enjoy the camaraderie as it is to fly.
In 2024, while at the club, I suffered a heart attack. Fortunately, I was surrounded by friends who immediately came to my aid. That experience inspired me to help make our club even safer by obtaining an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), which is now located near our charging station for the benefit of all our members and visitors.
I can't say enough about our president, **Jack Ferland**. His dedication to the Port St. Lucie RC Hobby Group goes far beyond what most people ever see.
Jack is always available to help members, and safety has always been his highest priority. Thanks in large part to his determination and leadership, our club received FAA FRIA (FAA-Recognized Identification Area) approval, allowing our members to continue enjoying the hobby under the current regulations.
Without question, joining this club has been one of the best lifetime decisions I've ever made. This hobby is fun, educational, and incredibly rewarding. One of the greatest pleasures is seeing people of every age—from young adults to senior citizens—sharing the same passion and enjoying time together.
