I started flying models around 1968. I was a junior in high school. I started out in control line. My first plane was a Sterling Ringmaster. The picture I enclosed shows me with my plane at the local high school with some of the boys that got into the hobby. The picture was taken by the local newspaper and made the front page.

At one point there was 8 of us flying 1/2a combat. A lot of fun on a tight budget. From there I got into RC and am self-taught on a Sig Kadet. I taught several people how to fly before buddy boxes came along. I have actually put a few guys on the ground to get their transmitter out their hands. They would have a death grip on the transmitter.

Iykyk. Model airplane flying helped me to solo in a Cessna 152 in 5&1/2 hours. I got out of the hobby for a while but got back into it about 25 years ago and haven’t stopped since.
