I built stick models, drugstore gliders, and solid wood kits in the 1940s.
Late 40s neighbor introduced me to Control Line models, taught me and my brother how to build and fly them. Joined Propsnappers Club and flew in several contests, receiving trophies!
Long gap after high school, US Army, College, working, marriage.
Started a model building club while teaching middle school, when I built my own Fokker Triplane from plans, rubber powered, which lasted for one flight in the gym. It flew like a lead weight. Then I rejoined the Propsnappers Club, started building RC models, and now have a garage full of planes, served as club president for two years, not very active now due to broken hip and old age but still involved with the club. I enjoy showing off some of my planes at club meetings, but I have been flying only on the RealFlight computer. Maybe one day!
