In honor of David Poe Sr.'s father:
He passed away on July 30, 2020. He was a longtime member of AMA, from 1970-2020. His original AMA number was 164. He first flew Control Line in the '60s, until 1970 when he got into radio control and taught himself to fly on a Goldberg Falcon 56 MK II with a K&B 35 plain bearing. The radio was a 6-channel Cirrus from Hobby Shack.
He taught me to fly at age 4 in 1976. I had been flying RC with pops for 48, going on 49, years. He taught me to fly and solo on his Falcon 56 MK II when I turned the age to have an AMA membership. I have had an AMA membership for those years. A few years ago, I stopped flying when I was in motocross racing. Then, I went back to flying RC.
My dad belonged to Modesto RC Club in the '70s. In late 1970 and the early 1980s, due to the glider guys and the power guys branching off, RC Flyers Unlimited came about. We are in District X at Hendricks Field in Oakdale, California.
