I began building gas u-control models in early 50s and joined AMA. I have been a member ever since. 15100. I represented Virginia in 1959 as the States Air Youth Champion and won a trip to California. Very exciting for an 18-year-old modeler's first time from home.
I traveled with friends and we won awards at many local and nearby state contests in speed and combat events. I also attended National Contests in Pennsylvania and Chicago. I placed 4th in 1/2A speed in the Penn. Nationals. Building and flying model planes has been a great pleasure in my life of 85 years. I have collected a large number of old engines and built two u-control models in the last couple of years although I can’t fly anymore .
