Charlie Gertner

Charlie Gertner was born to be an engineer and he takes his education very seriously. In tenth grade, Charlie transferred from the traditional public school setting to Oakland Early College (OEC). OEC is a dual enrollment program from 10th – 13th grade on the campus of the local community college. Because of OEC, he earned an associate’s degree in science and 83 college credits, 74 of which transferred to the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor where he plans to double major in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. Charlie has been very active outside of the classroom. Throughout his high school career, he has been involved with FIRST Robotics and was a captain of his school’s Academic Games team. Charlie was the secretary of OEC’s National Honors Society and the Vice President of Scholarship of Phi Theta Kappa. In addition to these educational extracurricular activities, he played travel baseball and became one of the Detroit Tigers Ball Boys. Charlie has also acted in movies and television shows such as It Follows and Outsiders. To give back to his community, Charlie participated in a grant giving organization called the Jewish Fund Teen board. Charlie has been involved in many other activites, but being a part of the AMA community and receiving a scholarship has persuaded him to follow a career in aeronautics. Charlie thanks everyone involved and he is extremely and forever grateful.
