For Mel and Karen Pamment, deciding to become AMA Foundation Torchbearers was an easy decision.
"The AMA does a fantastic job of representing the hobby to the public, helping those with an interest in becoming modelers to find assistance, as well as interfacing for us with the FAA," Karen stated. She became a Torchbearer in April 2023, and Mel signed up to be one in February 2023.
Mel has been involved in the hobby for most of his life. He began flying Control Line in his preteen years. As technology changed and advanced, he switched to flying RC model aircraft. Karen began flying in 1987 and also enjoys building. One of their favorite activities as a couple is flying RC together. "Being affiliated with AMA is just fun; modelers are great people," Karen commented.
Karen shared why she feels it's important to support the AMA Foundation:
" ... Most of all, in this age of modern electronics when so many of our youth have less interest in outdoor hobbies such as modeling than in the past, we need to educate them and pass on our tradition of flying. Pass the Torch! We’re hoping a lot of other members join this worthwhile program," she said.
If you sign up to become an AMA Torchbearer now through May 27, you will be entered to win a leather jacket. You will also receive the following gifts while supplies last: a campfire mug, a photoframe magnet, a blanket, and a hat. #iflyama #amafoundation #modelaircraft
