Each year, the AMA Foundation encourages clubs to share information about their events with local media. When newspapers, magazines, radio stations, and television stations cover fun-flys, fly-ins, or other gatherings, the clubs mentioned can receive a Club Recognition and Reward Grant. We wanted to share with you the positive media coverage that some of our clubs have received this year. Some of these events raise money for a good cause, while others are designed simply for a fun day of flying.
In May 2024, the Seven Lakes Aeromodelers of North Carolina held their 11th annual SLAM Fly-In. Read coverage of this event as well as interviews with several of their members on The Pilot here.
In early June 2024, the River City Radio Controllers put on a “Wings for Kids” charity RC air show that benefited the Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Wings for Kids has been celebrated for over 20 years and raised over $500,000 for various local causes. This event was promoted in the local news.
KEPR TV covered Tri-City Radio Control Modelers’ Learn to Fly event in Richland, Washington, which was funded by a Take off And Grow Grant. This event saw many young people learn how to fly for the first time. Read more here.
In Idaho Falls, Idaho, the Desert Eagles Model Airplane Club got creative and invited their local community to learn how to fly and to shoot paintballs at RC aircraft in July! This event benefited Veterans Mobility Corps, which provides refurbished wheelchairs to veterans, and was covered by Post Register.
As with our other grant programs, we would not be able to help support our clubs with initiatives such as the Club Recognition and Reward Grant without all of our incredible donors.
To join our group of donors, consider giving to the Programs Fund today. The Programs Fund helps support not only the Club Recognition and Reward Grant, but all of our other programs as well.
