Mike Ryken, longtime member of the Kansas City Radio Control Association (KCRC), crashed in his Ultralight aircraft on September 18, 2023.
He suffered major burns over most of his body. He is facing a long recovery, possibly up to 2 years. KCRC held a special fundraising event on October 21 to raise money for his medical bills. Donations can still be made using the KCRC webpage: www.kcradiocontrol.com.
Mike was into almost every phase of modeling. He was an excellent 3D pilot of large models, jet EDF and turbine aircraft, scale models, and gliders. Within the past several years, Mike has also learned to fly Control Line aircraft.
Mike is a past president of KCRC and has served on the Board of Directors until his accident. He is widely known throughout AMA Districts VI, VII, VIII, and IX, having attended many events throughout the Mid-West USA.
