I started flying RC 37 years ago. I got my private pilot's license 49 years ago. What I learned from RC transferred into full-size, and after building a number of RCs, I started building experimental aircraft. I am now building my 4th experience. I am finishing my 14th rebuild and just purchased my 31st airplane.
This track would not have happened without my RC background; in fact, my many RC crashes saved my life. I had engine failure in a Pitts S1 with a resulting forced landing into Compton airport. From my RC crash experience, I knew I had to keep pushing down in a difficult situation.
Without my hundreds of RC crashes, I would not have had a chance. I made the runway and lived to become an A&P mechanic, being able to push my good fortune forward to help and watch young people and friends grab hold of life and go fly! I fly RC daily; it is good for the soul.
