My modeling love started around 1968 when my father brought home a newly released Cox F2G Corsair. He taught me how to start it, I taught myself how to fly it. My father George Pizon was a great influence and teacher, and I owe him a lot.
I had had my first RC Airplane in 1974, a Top Flite Headmaster with a OS Max .25 for power and a Heathkit GD-19 5 Channel radio which I helped him build! I originally had a 4-digit AMA number but lost it when I didn’t pay for a couple years, so now I have my 5-digit 82653 number.
I quickly advanced to a Andrews A-Ray with the same Heathkit radio, had many more models, New Era III, Bridi Tweedy Bird, Q-Tee, a cardboard Petenpol which was a ton of fun, Ace Super Pacer, Mark’s Models Windward glider, Gator Flea, Quickie 500’s (a few) Laser 200, Dago Red P-51, Fw-190. I’m sure I left out quite a few.
My favorite radio was my Futaba Contest 7 which I still have to this day! I had many models of Futaba radios over the years. I still fly Electric RTFs and I have an Andrews A-Ray still in kit form that needs to be built. I have a new Quickie 500 which I have to put the radio and engine in to finish it up.
The love of flying lead me to get my full-scale Pilot license at age 18. This is a great sport, and I hope it continues for decades to come!
