My first flight was in 1962, and the plane was a Cox TD-4 Trainer plane. That was the plane Cox used BEFORE the PT-19. My dad was a WW2 Bomber Pilot; he was an instructor on B-24s out of Smyrna Tenn., and B-29s out of Maxwell in Ala.
As a kid, 12 O'clock high was my favorite TV show and they used B-17s, so I assumed my dad flew them. Reality is, he never even sat in a B-17. So, I wanted to fly a bomber and I built my first B-17 in 1965. It had two 020s and was painted like the Piccadilly Lilly from the show. Only later did I find out my dad never flew one.
Later in life, I decided to build a 1/36-scale profile B-24 and that was it. I fell in love with the Liberator and it is my soulmate. I've flown every type of American and most RAF bombers. I even have a B-32 Dominator. As far as single engines go, I really enjoy flying my S-1 Sterling Ring Master for Int'l Ring Master Day with my flying club, the New Orleans Ringmaster Flying Club, which has been chartered with AMA for over 50 years.
64 MB is not enough to tell all about how messed up Hurricane Katrina was, but that was 21 years ago. Life takes all of us on twists and turns from time to time, but model airplanes have been with me every step of the way. Keem 'em flying.
