From a young age, I was captivated by the dream of flight. Growing up in southern Arkansas, however, opportunities to pursue that dream were limited.
Fortunately, my father, recognizing my passion, was able to purchase a well-worn trainer aircraft—an old, crash-damaged model that had clearly seen better days. Despite its condition, that humble aircraft marked the beginning of my lifelong love for aviation. It ignited a passion that has shaped the person I am today.
Today, I serve as the Director of Aviation for a major corporate flight department, operating Dassault Falcons. I firmly believe I would not be in this position were it not for the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Their commitment to providing young aspiring pilots with access to flight through local club sponsorships and youth programs played a pivotal role in my journey. Thanks to the AMA, even children without the financial means can experience the joy of flying.
Not a day goes by that I don’t reflect on my childhood beginnings—how a battered trainer and a simple dream set me on the path to a fulfilling career in aviation. As a father, I hope my son follows the same dream I did, discovering for himself the passion, discipline, and joy that flight can bring.
