I was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, in 1932. I built many of the WWII planes as stick and paper models. When I was a senior in High School, I had my first Control Line model. The next few years I was busy with the US Army, education, marriage, and children, but still I would occasionally build a rubber-powered model. In 1980, I joined AMA and built my first Radio Control model, a Sig Kadet with a Fox 40 motor.
I was living in Chicago, and the members of the Chicago Modelers taught me to fly. I then moved to Texas and joined the Golden Triangle Radio Control Club. I built more planes and was Treasurer of the club for a few years. Next, I moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where I joined the Madison Area Radio Control Society. I eventually became an instructor and helped many learn to fly. Also, I was treasurer for MARCS for
10 years. And I volunteered at two of the Madison High School Aviation classes, introducing several students to RC models.
After about 20 years of flying with MARCS, I had to give up due to eye problems. I am no longer very active, but I am still a Leader Member for AMA and promote the hobby every chance I get.
