Hello, my name is Bobby Wohner. Some of my friends call me Bobcat. I have loved modeling from a child, starting at seven years old. I’m now 58. There have been some layoffs, but it always drew me back flying as wonderful building and flying is very satisfying. Started out when I was a kid going to grandma‘s house on Saturday. She would have to go do her hair and then go grocery shopping.

After shopping at the grocery store, I'd go to the counter and they'd have these little boxes of these wind up airplanes of the glider and a bi plane. I asked for one and she gave me one of the wind ups. I had a blast with it all day. The next week we did the same thing and this time I had a glider my grandfather shipped out. He came home the next Saturday after he went up and down and got my airplane off the roof several times. My flying had ended till he shipped out again. I progressed each Christmas. I would ask for a Cox airplane and I didn’t know anything about them, but I asked around and gathered information that gave me the ability to know it needed a battery and some fuel. I was able to obtain all three things, airplane battery and fuel backed in. We had Kmart and we had Wooleco. Sometimes you can get a kit. Then I progressed to snap on models of cars, learned how to read the prints and began to build the glue together. Sometime during this time I met a man in Beaumont. His name was Don Steele and he's very well known in the AMA world. Don Steele's Hobby Haven. He’s gone and we miss him very much but he taught me everything about Control on airplanes. I flew with him a couple of times. I have pictures with him, he was a good man. And then I gathered RC models. I've never built an RC model, but maybe someday. I began to fly RC models, jets, 3-D bi planes. You name it, I’ve probably found it personally. I’m a 3-D pilot. The new FPV stuff is inspiring and fun. A lot of restrictions at this point but plenty of fun. If you ever decide to do modeling start small and then graduate upward.

The pleasure is in building. It teaches you a lot. Patience is number one, staying with a project. Number two is finishing it, and flying it doesn’t get much more rewarding than that, so my suggestion is get in the hobby. It’s a lifetime of pleasure. Modeling is very rewarding, relaxing, and ultimately satisfying whenever you find a model that you put together and have a lot of pride in. Modeling will teach you everything to be a good man.
