In 2015, Lucas joined the AMA and built his first model airplane, a P-47. He really enjoyed flying his first plane and soon went on to build his second plane, a Taylorcraft 450. In 2016 Lucas built his first drone and registered with Multi GP and entered into his first race. Since then, Lucas has continued to build and participate in local drone races. As a 2020 high school graduate, this hobby has given Lucas the technical skills that he needs to pursue his career in electrical engineering at Florida International University. These skills include soldering, programming, and modifying various parts to make the drones go faster. Lucas loves everything about the building, flying, and yes, even crashing. This scholarship will help him as he starts his new adventure as a freshman in college and he gives thanks to all of those at the AMA for giving him the scholarship. He would also like to give a special thanks to the Vista View Flyers Club members, who have always given him great flying tips and advice and for also keeping the drone field ready for practice.
