All of our AMA clubs are fantastic, but I want to give a special shout-out to Tri-City R/C Modelers. Located in Richland, Washington, Tri-City has something for everyone to fly—3-D, ducted fan, electric, fixed wing, fuel/gas, Giant Scale, RC helicopters, park flyers, Pattern, and RC Pylon Racing.
Another notable thing about Tri-City R/C Modelers is the club's Take off And Grow (TAG) events. The group hosted one in the spring of 2022 and another in the fall. The events were funded by a TAG grant that the club received in 2022. Hosting a TAG event is a fantastic way to help grow your club and your membership.
TAG is a grant program administered by the AMA Foundation and can help your club with a portion of financial assistance when you host an event. More information about TAG can be found online. Applications for TAG Grants are being accepted until February 1, 2023.
On October 1, 2022, Tri-City hosted its fall TAG event. More than 15 members were at the club early and began preparing for the arrival of guests. You know, it’s club members who make TAG events really shine. Members offer their time, talents, and instruction, making it possible for TAG event guests to actually fly and learn how to fly. Wow, it is a good thing that these members were there because nearly 50 guests who are now potential AMA members showed up for a chance to fly. Fly, they did, and by the end of the day, more than 30 flights were made.
One of the highlights was 8-year-old Evelyn, who, when asked what it was like to fly, said, “It was awesome,” with a big smile on her face.
